History
The Lucky Shoe Racing Syndicate was first formed in 2005. Since then, the Syndicate has periodically raced horses on the flat and over jumps with a number of trainers including the late Dessie Hughes, Gordon Elliott and Johnny Murtagh. The Syndicate is organised and administered on a not for profit basis by Laurence Kennedy who acts as Agent for the Syndicate. The aim is to strike a balance between keeping the cost per member as reasonable as possible and ensuring that the member’s individual racing experience is not significantly diluted. Through leasing horses at nil cost, Syndicate members are spared the significant, initial cost of purchasing horses to race. Recently, the Syndicate has forged an association with Pigeon Park Stud. Well bred fillies with the potential to be retained for breeding by the Stud, are leased by the Syndicate for their racing careers. Uniquely, this offers Syndicate members a wider perspective and fuller experience in following the progress of a racehorse from stud through to the racetrack.
Current Version
For the 2024 flat season, the Syndicate is leasing two exciting prospects to race as two-year-olds. Both are fillies. One is by Champion racehorse and leading sire, Churchill and is a half-sister to a number of Stakes winners, including the Group 1 winner and Classic placed Ventura Storm. The other is a Profitable filly and is a half-sister to Royal Ascot and Group 3 winner Create Belief. Both fillies are going into training with Paddy Twomey.
In previous versions of the Syndicate just one horse was raced at a time and from 12 to 15 members were involved. For this latest, more ambitious version, the members have taken the unanimous decision to double the number of membership shares. A limited number of shares are still available.
